The Orange County Commission received a briefing from the building department officials on Tuesday morning and the report indicated development trending upwards in the rapidly growing community.
Some of the statistics indicated included a 12% increase in overall development in 2015 over the previous year with 68,000 building permits expected to be issued. There is also a projected increase in single family residence construction which was hit especially hard during the recession. Approximately 3000 permits were expected to be issued, which would lead to a 12% increase in those numbers as well. Most of the growth is expected in West Orange County or the Horizons West.
In order to prepare for the growth the county will be implementing new technology to not only track growth but to improve the customer service experience in the perpetually busy permitting department.
The work being done by county officials was praised by Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs who said “What is most gratifying is not just the improving economy but the attention to customer service and watching you all come to work to do what you love.”
