ARRI Rental, a New Jersey based company, is closing it’s Ft. Lauderdale in favor of a move to Georgia. Film Florida, the state-wide entertainment production association representing the Film industry says the move was caused by a lack of support from state lawmakers.
“On October 31, 2016 ARRI Rental will close its Florida production equipment rental office after 14 years, moving operations from their South Florida office to Atlanta.” says Kelly Paige, Film Florida President This is another blow to the film, television and production industry in Florida that can be attributed to, according to ARRI Rental, the continued lack of support for our industry from the state legislature.”
Paige is referring to tax incentives which have been kicked around during recent legislative sessions but have failed to gain traction. Conservative watch-dog groups says taxpayer dollars won’t stay in Florida but will find their way to the parent companies in Hollywood. Post-production auditing measures have been added to legislation but lawmakers have continued to believe the money would be best spend elsewhere.
“We hope our state legislators take note of the continued exodus of Florida companies and residents from our once thriving industry.” says Paige in conclusion.
