On Wednesday morning, a group lead by Doug Kaplan, President of Gravis Marketing, announced that they’ve have reached terms to purchase the Orlando Political Observer and the Orlando Business Observer. The Winter Springs pollster will expand the scope of the existing operation, while keeping many of the Observer’s current qualities in place.
“Our audience is a highly educated audience who cares deeply about politics.” begins Kaplan “Many are influencers in politics and government and in time, gravis marketing will use this as a vehicle to distribute polls.”
Kaplan’s other online interests have received millions of hits last year alone. His goal will be to continue catering core audience with state and national politics, while adding investigative journalism and expanded coverage into Lake, Marion, Polk, and Osceola counties. There will also be an added emphasis on video content.
Terms of the deal were not released and a separate business entity is expected to stand up to finalize the merger. Orlando Political Observer founder, Frank Torres, will remain on during the transition period and will be used as a contributing writer and photographer. An independent editor and other correspondents are expected to be added in the coming months.
“The new site will continue to stay non- partisan similar to everything else I have done over the last six years.” Continues Kaplan reflecting on the results of last week’s elections “ We look forward to seeing if the campaign rhetoric we’ve heard will match up to what we see when these candidates take office. We will be expanding all over Central Florida.”
