Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy has released a statement on the Orlando workplace shooting that took place on Monday morning, killing six people, including the gunman who committed suicide after attacking the Fiamma Inc, a company where he was employed until April of this year.
“I’m incredibly saddened by the news of this morning’s tragic shooting in Orlando.” says Murphy “My heart breaks for the families and coworkers affected, and I join all Floridians in praying for a quick recovery for those injured and for the families who lost a loved one. The Orlando community is also grateful to our first responders for their speed, bravery, and professionalism, especially the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. I am incredibly thankful for their dedicated public service.”
None of the names of the victims have been released. The shooter was 45 years old, with a history of minor criminal behavior, and was involved in another case of violence against a former employee in 2015.
The attack comes the week before the one year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, which killed 49 people last year and injured 53 more.
“Orlando has endured far too much heartbreak over the past year, and it’s especially important we remain united and supportive of one another.” added Murphy “This senseless act of violence happened just one week away from the anniversary of the Pulse attack, only adding to our community’s collective grief. In these difficult moments, we must continue to find strength in one another. We are Orlando strong and Orlando united.”
