Online retailing giant Amazon is set to buy the Whole Foods grocery chain for $13.7 billion dollars. The news broke early Friday morning.
“Millions of people love Whole Foods Market because they offer the best natural and organic foods, and they make it fun to eat healthy.” said Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos “Whole Foods Market has been satisfying, delighting and nourishing customers for nearly four decades – they’re doing an amazing job and we want that to continue,”
The grocery chain opened in 1978 and consists of 465 stores, employing 87,000 employees.
Amazon is continuing their push to diversify their operations. In recent years they’ve expanded their online streaming service and has continue to offer new and more efficient options for delivery.
